AAAU, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University formalizes partnership on world class academic delivery across Africa

The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, has signed a strategic partnership agreement with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University to strengthen aviation education, professional training and workforce development across Africa.

Signed on October 14, 2026, the agreement establishes a framework for collaboration in educational support, professional development programmes and distance learning initiatives. Embry-Riddle, a specialised aviation and aerospace institution with a history spanning more than a century, enters into what is described as its first formal partnership of this magnitude in Africa.

A major highlight of the partnership is that, beginning with the 2027/2028 academic session, AAAU students are expected to have the option of undertaking selected courses through Embry-Riddle Worldwide and earning an Embry-Riddle certificate alongside their AAAU degree. Both universities have also agreed to recognise each other’s academic credits, creating opportunities for greater academic flexibility and enhancing the international visibility of AAAU graduates.

During the visit, the AAAU delegation toured Embry-Riddle’s campus, including the flight line, which houses its ground and flight training facilities. Following the tour, AAAU commenced preliminary discussions on adapting Embry-Riddle’s model of integrating an academic degree with professional flight training, with the aim of enabling students to earn a Commercial Pilot Licence alongside their degree within the stipulated four-year academic structure.

AAAU also expressed interest in partnering with Embry-Riddle to establish a flying school as part of the second phase of the partnership. This proposed initiative would represent a further step towards expanding practical flight training opportunities and strengthening the University’s capacity to develop aviation professionals.

The Acting Vice-Chancellor of AAAU, Dr. Mustapha Sheik Abdullahi, FInsTA, FCMI, described the partnership as a significant milestone in the University’s commitment to advancing aviation and aerospace education across the continent.

Dr. John Watret, Chancellor of Embry-Riddle Worldwide, expressed the institution’s commitment to supporting aviation and aerospace education programmes that uphold the highest standards of professionalism, quality and safety.

The partnership reinforces AAAU’s commitment to international collaboration and its vision of developing highly skilled aviation and aerospace professionals equipped to meet the growing demands of Africa’s aviation industry while expanding their opportunities in the global aviation workforce.
