Prof. Gabriel Tilmann

A former senior aviation executive with over 40 years of demonstrated results in the aviation industry, a Lufthansa executive and training captain for 20 years with 12,500 hours, Tilmann Gabriel has implemented sustained growth for leading airlines, as well as start-ups, airports, MRO, business jet and helicopter operations, aircraft manufacturers and large training operations. He has created dramatic results for clients such as Lufthansa, Deutsche British Airways, Flexjet, Royal Jet, CHC, Safi Airways and Qatar Airways, and was appointed Ass. Professor and Director of the renowned Master Programmes for Aviation Management of CITY, University of London in 2014. 

A global executive with leadership experience in European, American, Middle Eastern, and African markets, Gabriel remains a key innovator in airlines and aviation companies and reinforces a safety culture environment while cultivating leadership, integrity and individual responsibility. Next to the research with his many students from all around the aviation industry, Gabriel consults and coaches specific aviation projects and Executives, and supports investors with tenders and purchasing decisions. As board member of Airways Aviation Academy, Gabriel served as interim CEO and Accountable Manager for this prestigious global Flight Training Academy restructuring the flightschool during Covid-19 with a new training center in Montpellier. Currently, Gabriel is contracted as transaction advisor to the Nigerian Government for the business plan and start-up of the national airline Nigeria Air and the launch of the first African Aviation & Aerospace University in Abuja, Nigeria.

An avid speaker at international aviation, training and safety conferences and columnist for several magazines, Gabriel is widely considered a thought leader in his field and is writing about and researching the future opportunities in air transport and support systems, future pilot recruitment, training and workplace cockpit, as well as new concepts in gamified learning in aviation. As Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society, Gabriel is a member of the Learned Society Board.

He was a member of the ICAO CBTA Task Force responsible for the development of the new pilot license training, based on core competencies and observable behaviours; and focusing on the combination of bachelor programmes with the ICAO Annex 1 licenses.

Prof. Tilmann is currently the Ag. Vice Chancellor of the AAAU.
