The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, recently held a key meeting with the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) to discuss important issues aimed at advancing the institution’s growth and development.
The meeting, led by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN, CON, FCIArB(UK), was attended by the Registrar of AAAU, Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi, along with other management staff.
The Minister and his team were warmly received by TETFund’s Executive Secretary, Architect Sonny Achono, and his team at TETFund’s headquarters.
Following the formal reception, both parties proceeded to a brief meeting where the Honourable Minister expressed his gratitude for TETFund’s ongoing support to AAAU. He highlighted that the university had recently admitted approximately 150 undergraduate students from over 1,000 applicants, with resource and space constraints limiting the number of admissions.
The Minister emphasised the uniqueness of AAAU as a pioneering institution in aviation, aerospace and environmental science, underscoring its growing reputation and collaborations with international partners. He called for expedited funding to develop AAAU’s permanent site to accommodate the increasing demand and ensure the university’s facilities meet global standards.
In his remarks, the Honourable Minister, Festus Keyamo also stressed the importance of TETFund’s involvement in all aspects of AAAU’s development, not just in infrastructure, but also in staff training and capacity-building initiatives.
In response, Executive Secretary Sonny Achono assured the Minister of TETFund’s commitment to supporting AAAU beyond routine allocations. He reaffirmed TETFund’s dedication to partnering with the university in areas such as staff training and other developmental needs.
The meeting concluded with a private discussion between the Honourable Minister, the Registrar of AAAU, and TETFund’s management team.
This strategic engagement is set to strengthen AAAU’s mission of becoming a leading Pan-African aviation university, delivering excellence in education, research, and innovation across the aviation and aerospace sectors.
