B.Sc Meteorology

Philosophy

B.Sc Meteorology is a program for young adults interested in the study of the atmosphere. It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills in weather forecasting, climate monitoring and atmospheric science research. Meteorology offers great opportunities for graduates to work in weather broadcasting stations,
environmental agencies, industrial weather research facilities, military department, satellite space research centres, radio and television stations and global weather centres.

Learning Outcomes

  • Regime of Subject Knowledge

All Bachelors Honours Level, Meteorology Graduates are expected to develop cognitive abilities and skills relating to agro-meteorology, hydro-meteorology, marine-meteorology and other applied meteorological areas.

  • Competencies and Skills

They should be able to demonstrate practical skills relating to the solution on meteorological problems and its applications.

  • Behavioural Attitudes

They should be able to demonstrate general skills relating to non-subject specific competencies, ICT capability, communication skills, interpersonal skills and organization skills.

  • Attainmant Levels

Graduates of Meteorology are expected to have the ability to apply knowledge and skills to solving theoretical and practical problems in Aviation and other related areas in relation to national, African and societal needs.

  • Programme Duration

A student should normally spend eight academic semesters if he/she admitted through UTME and six semesters if through Direct Entry to obtain a Bachelor of Science Degree (B.Sc.) in Meteorology.

  • Admission Requirement

Admission into the program would be by:

  1. Minimum of 140 Score in University Matriculation Examination (UTME)
  2. Direct Entry
  • University Matriculation Examination

To be admitted through UTME, candidates must possess

  1. Credit passes in the following subjects: at WAEC or NECO examinations or acceptable equivalents in Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Geography and Economics at not more than two (2) sittings.
  2. An acceptable pass mark of not less than 140 at the UTME conducted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
