Dr. Eniola Olaniyan, Head of the Department of Meteorology at the African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, represented the university at the 6th African Regional Conference on Irrigation and Drainage (ARCID), held at the Umar Musa Yar’Adua International Conference Centre in Abuja.
The event themed “Tackling Irrigation Development and Water Management Crises in Africa” convened leading experts and stakeholders from across the continent to address critical challenges and explore collaborative solutions within the framework of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID).
In collaboration with the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), Dr. Olaniyan chaired a pivotal session titled “Earth Observation-Based Products and Digital Innovation for Irrigation Water Management.” He also delivered a presentation spotlighting cutting-edge digital tools and Earth Observation (EO) technologies that are transforming irrigation practices across Africa.
The session showcased real world case studies from various African countries, illustrating the tangible impact of EO driven innovations in improving water efficiency and agricultural productivity.
AAAU’s participation underscores its commitment to advancing science based solutions in environmental sustainability and smart agriculture through research, technology and international partnerships.
