The School of Postgraduate Studies (SPGS), African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), on Thursday, 11 June 2026, organized an orientation programme for newly admitted postgraduate students of the 2025/2026 academic session.
The event, which brought together new students and faculty members, was designed to familiarize students with the University’s academic culture, policies, expectations, and support services as they commence their postgraduate studies.
Declaring the programme open, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Mustapha Sheikh Abdullahi welcomed the students and highlighted the University’s remarkable journey from its conception to its current position as a growing centre of excellence in aviation and aerospace education. He encouraged the students to take advantage of the unique opportunities available at AAAU and remain committed to achieving academic success.
Speaking on the values of the institution, the Ag. Vice-Chancellor stressed that: “students who choose to remain at AAAU must embrace discipline, hard work, integrity, and excellence throughout their academic journey”. According to him, the University places equal emphasis on character and learning, with a strong commitment to producing graduates who possess not only outstanding academic qualifications but also exemplary moral values.
He further noted that while AAAU provides a supportive and welcoming learning environment, it maintains zero tolerance for actions that compromise academic and institutional standards. He emphasized that adherence to the university’s rules and regulations remains a fundamental requirement for all students.
In his address, the Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Yahaya Zayyana Ibrahim underscored the importance of dedication, commitment, and effective time management in postgraduate education. He advised students to maximize the opportunities available within the university and make productive use of the academic and research facilities provided.
The Dean also drew attention to critical academic requirements, including the timely completion of admission documentation, course registration, strict adherence to the academic calendar, and compliance with postgraduate regulations. He noted that these measures are essential for the successful completion of academic programmes within the stipulated period.
As part of the orientation programme, the Ag. Librarian, Dr. Ibinaye Dorcas delivered a presentation on research ethics and academic integrity. She emphasized the importance of originality in scholarly work and cautioned students against plagiarism and other forms of academic misconduct.
The programme also featured an interactive session during which students engaged with the Ag. Secretary of the School of Postgraduate Studies and other faculty members. Participants sought clarification on various academic and administrative matters, receiving detailed guidance and responses to their questions.
To conclude the programme, the newly admitted students were taken on a guided tour of the University’s facilities and campus environment. The tour provided them with an opportunity to familiarize themselves with key academic, research, and support facilities available to enhance their learning experience.
The orientation programme was successful as it marks a new beginning in the students’ academic journey and reaffirmed AAAU’s commitment to providing a conducive environment for advanced learning, research, and professional development.
