AAAU Hosts Climate Risk Adaptation Workshop to Strengthen Airport Resilience

The African Aviation and Aerospace University (AAAU), Abuja, recently hosted a two-day workshop titled “Airports in the Era of Extremes: Navigating Risk and Building Adaptive Capacity,” facilitated by UK-based climate risk expert, Dr. Asimina Voskaki. Organized for postgraduate students of the Department of Meteorology, the workshop explored the impact of climate-related hazards on airport operations through lectures, scenario-building exercises, stakeholder simulations, and discussions on climate risk assessment and adaptation strategies.

The workshop highlighted the importance of collaboration, effective science communication, stakeholder engagement, and proactive planning in strengthening resilience within Nigeria’s aviation sector. At the close of the programme, the Head of the Department of Meteorology, Dr. Eniola Olaniyan, and the Head of the African Centre for Climate Change and Aviation Decarbonization (ACCCAD), Dr. Salihu Abdullahi Chado, expressed appreciation to Dr. Voskaki and reaffirmed their commitment to future research collaborations and international partnerships to advance climate research and enhance ACCCAD’s global visibility.
